Stewardship

Flowering Bleeding Heart

Stewardship is one of my key values. Something that continually shows on professional development assessments that I have completed through work at University of Virginia. The Holman Bible Dictionary offers a definition of Biblical stewardship: “Utilizing and managing all resources God provides for the glory of God and the betterment of His creation.” From this I want to highlight the second part of this statement — for the glory of God and the betterment of His Creation. What are ways in which we can be bettering His creation? Or being conscientious stewards? Do our actions point a hurting world to God?

Today’s answer is applying wisdom and attentive care to how we interact with nature. April 22nd is a global focus on Earth Day. And so, what does it mean to be a good steward of Earth? Do our actions harm or better the world around us? Are we taking steps to reduce our waste outputs, reuse items, and enjoy natural beauty? Or are we callous in our decisions? With the more knowledge I gain through local workshops, classes, etc, I find that feel growing responsibility to educate, reuse items, and plant beneficial trees.

If stewardship of our natural resources interests you, your community may have Tree Stewards, garden clubs, Master Gardeners, Master Naturalists, etc that can mentor you. I encourage everyone to develop compassion for His creation.
